Include Other Processes within a Process or Artifact

Updated by Chris Kosmopoulos

A Task can “Include” another process.  This lets you model hierarchies of processes. Since included processes describe a task in greater detail, higher-level Processes become smaller, more conceptual, and easier to understand.  It is a best practice to keep the number of user tasks in any given Process less than 20.

When a task includes a Process, the user story generated for that task will have a [Epic] prefix added to its name.

Whenever a task in a Process includes another artifact or Process, it will show an include indicator

To include another process or artifact from a task:

  1. Click the (…) on the task.
  2. In the modal displayed, click Add Include.
  • Selecting New Process will create an included process with the same name as the task including it.
  • Selecting Existing Artifact will open the Select Artifact window where you can search for an existing artifact by using the search box or browsing the project hierarchy. Select the artifact you want to include, then click OK.

Clicking the Include indicator displays the included artifact along with a navigation trail below the main toolbar.

As you navigate through a hierarchy model, you are able to easily return to any parent artifact using the navigation trail.

The navigation trail appears only for included Process artifacts, not other artifact types.
