View and Edit Artifacts in the Utility Panel
The Utility Panel includes more detailed information about the selected artifact. Several artifact elements can be edited in the Utility Panel.

The Utility Panel includes more detailed information about the selected artifact, such as properties, relationships, discussions, files, and history.
This panel slides open and closed, and is located on the right-hand side of the Blueprint interface.
The Relationships, Discussions, and Files tabs, will have an asterisk next to their names if there is information to be viewed in that tab for the selected artifact. The asterisk is also displayed when the Utility Panel is closed.
Several artifact elements can be edited in the Utility Panel. This article will cover:
- Edit Artifact Properties
- View Relationships and Traces
- Utility Panel - Common Object Model
Edit Artifact Properties
The Properties tab in the Utility Panel displays all standard and custom artifact and sub-artifact property information such as name, type, description, and when and by whom it was created and last edited.
To edit a field of interest, click the field and make your edits.

View Relationships and Traces
The Relationships tab in the Utility Panel displays any relationships between the selected artifact and other artifacts in the project. Information available in this tab includes relationship type and direction, and artifact icon, ID, name, and project.
You can view Trace and "other" relationships in this tab.
Automatic and Manual Trace Relationships
Trace relationships can be automatic or manual.
Certain Traces are automatically formed. This occurs in situations such as the scenario between a generated user story and the related steps in a process. These types of relationships cannot be managed in the Relationships tab; changes must be made from within the artifact itself.
Other Traces, such as Inline Traces, must be manually formed and can be managed in the Relationships tab – where they can be added, deleted or flagged. The direction (To, From, Bidirectional) of existing traces can also be changed in this tab.
Other Relationships
The "Other" category includes relationships such as associations, document references, and actor inherits
Association Relationship
An association relationship is automatically formed between artifacts in situations such as the selection of an actor or the addition of an Include.
Like automatic Traces, they can't be changed via the Relationships tab—only within the artifact itself.
Document Reference
A document reference relationship is formed between a document artifact whenever another artifact references it in the Files tab.
Actor Inherits
An actor inherit is manually formed between two actor artifacts. This relationship can be added, changed, and removed in the properties of the inheriting actor when the actor artifact is opened.
Utility Panel - Common Object Model
Users can view the application, action, and parameters associated with steps in Digital Blueprints. During an import from RPA Tools, the applications/commands/parameters are converted and populated into Blueprint's COM (Common Object Model).
Similarly on export of a Digital Blueprint, the applications/commands/parameters are converted already populated to the target RPA tool. This allows RPA developers to get a head start on completing their automations.
To view COM data, click a Process artifact, select one of the User Steps, open the Utility Panel on the right hand side. Under the Common Object Modal are:
- Application - The COM application the action is interacting with
- Action - The specific action taken on that application
- Input/Output - Any input/output variables relating to that action
