What are Rules?

Rules are a way for a user to define a conversion in cases where Blueprint was unable to. This reduces work for the PAD developer since Blueprint would otherwise create a ToDo comment in the PAD code that the developer would need to resolve.

The breadth of rule types gives the migration-developer a powerful tool to reduce the work needed to complete the converted PAD code, especially in large RPA estates. It also gives a powerful capability to standardize conversion into a set of common foundational components in PAD.

Rule Types

There are different types of rules available, and there is a different set of types for each of the supported RPA tools. These types cover custom actions, reusability, unresolved references, variables, queues, and even code-replacement. The list of rule types, their behavior, and which are available in which tool is summarized in a table in the article USING RULES.

Rule User Interfaces (UIs)

There are three distinct user interfaces you can use with Rules. The main user interface is the Rules Table. The Rules Wizard is a simplified experience with improved usability, but doesn't offer all the capability of the Rules Table. The Rules CSV provides a very detailed experience intended for power users, typically with development expertise. Each of these is described in greater detail in the Rules User Interfaces article.

The Rules Wizard is described in the article Rules Wizard.

Subsequent articles focus on the Rules Table and the Rules CSV, and reference the Rules Wizard where appropriate.
